E-mail Marketing

What is E-mail matketing

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing. Marketing by email is a paper-free method of getting new customers, retaining your customers and driving sales. It is a much greener and cheaper option than posting.

CRE8 can arrange for your email marketing campaign to be set up prior to the launch and then programme the system with a delivery time and date to send automatically.

Target the right people by setting up an opt in on your website or collect your client emails as and when they buy or use your services.

Tracking E-mail marketing

We will send you a stats report around one month from your E-mail marketing campaign being activated. This report will include the following information:
• E-mail marketing name
• Date and time it was activated
• How many E-mail addresses it was sent to
• How many opened the E-mail in both numbers and %
• How many clicked the E-mail in both numbers and %
• How many forward the E-mail in both numbers and %
• How many E-mails bounced in both numbers and %
• How many unsubscribed to your E-mail in both numbers, % and name *
• List name they were sent from (for those who have multiple lists)

* Anyone who unsubscribed from your E-mail will automatically be removed by the system so as to
ensure we do not send any other E-mail marketing to them

How to compile an Email

Always highlight the benefits of subscribing to your email service and provide an online form on your website for businesses/clients to register immediately.

Put opt-in tick boxes and space for email information on all your paper-based marketing material.

People are more likely to opt in if you give them an incentive. You could for example you could do a special offer and give discounts to customers who sign up for your business updates and newsletters. Make these offers available exclusively for people signing up to your email marketing.

When asking people to sign up for these services, be sure to remember not to ask for too much information at the registration stage - lots of boxes to complete will put people off. All you need is there name, email address and phone number to get you started.

Build yourself an excel spreadsheet to keep the information you have collected. A good idea is to have a column which will remind you of the customer, this can be what they bought, there interests or even Birthday. Clients like when you remember small details about them.

Laws on data protection

E-mail marketing is governed by laws on data protection, privacy and e-commerce, so you should plan your campaign carefully:

• E-commerce regulations require you to make all commercial email clearly identifiable as such, either in the text of the email or in the email header.
• There must be an easy to find button to opt out of receiving emails from you.
• You cannot send unsolicited marketing messages by email to individual subscribers unless you have their prior consent. There are exemptions if their address was collected in the course of a sale or if the recipient has expressed an interest in 'similar' items and chose not to opt out when the address was originally collected. 'Individual subscribers' do not include companies or individuals within companies.
• Under e-commerce regulations, marketing emails must include certain information about your business, for example full business name, contact details and a clear indication of prices if you refer to them.
• When sending email marketing messages, you must never hide your identity.
• It is illegal to reveal recipients' details on any emails. Always send the email to yourself and blind carbon copy (Bcc) to each recipient.

The Data Protection Act 1998 regulates how you build and manage your customer database. You need to comply with the law when sending emails to people who aren't already customers.
